A last minute equaliser from former Leigh striker Gavin Salmon earned a dramatic point for visitors Warrington in a thrilling local derby at Crilly Park.

After missing the midweek 3-1 home loss to Mossley, Connor Millington returned to the Leigh midfield against his former club while youngster James Kelly was back in the starting eleven after an impressive 90 minutes against Bamber Bridge last week.

Leigh started marginally the better side but fell behind after twelve minutes when Mike Duffy was left unmarked at the back post to control a cross from the left hand side and allowed all the time in the world to pick his spot to fire past Genesis goalkeeper Andy Farrimond.

It took just another two minutes for Warrington to double their lead when a driving run forward from Duffy created the space to play in Craig Davies to slot the ball in to Farrimond's bottom right hand corner.

The early goalfest continued with Leigh halving the deficit only three minutes later when Neil Smith latched on to a Nathan McDonald through ball to power the ball past Warrington goalkeeper Paul Pritchard and give the game it's third goal with only seventeen minutes on the clock.

A James Kelly corner was hooked over the crossbar on the turn by Stuart Rudd from the edge of the penalty area in the twenty sixth minute before Sam Finlay dipped a half volley narrowly over the crossbar from the visitors on thirty five minutes, nine minute before Alan Collins' cross-turned-shot curled just wide of Farrimond's left hand post, leaving the visitors a goal in front at the break.

Having been two goals down at such an early stage of the game against a side who will only narrowly finish outside of the Evo-Stik League First Division North play-off places, few would have expected bottom-placed Genesis to mount a comeback, but that's exactly what they did and were back on level terms within three minutes of the restart with a goal virtually out of nothing when, not for the first time this season, Nathan McDonald unleashed a screamer of a shot from twenty five yards that gave Pritchard no chance.

Leigh's tails were now up and Nathan McDonald was again at the hub of the action when they deservedly took the lead on seventy four minutes, doggedly chasing the ball against Adam Wade before eventually winning the race against the Warrington defender, narrowly managing to keep the ball inside the field of play and then square it for brother Marvin McDonald to lash the ball home for Leigh's third of the afternoon.

Genesis substitute Gary Grant smartly deflected a header away from ex-Leigh front man Chris Thompson on seventy nine minutes before Neil Smith came close to sealing a Leigh victory on eighty five minutes when his low shot was parried away by Pritchard and desperately hacked away for a corner.

However, as has been so typical of Genesis this season, the story wasn't finished and Warrington managed to equalise in the final minute of normal time with a terrific strike against his former club from Salmon, firing the ball from distance and finding Farrimond's bottom corner after a little over ten minutes on the field as a substitute.

A thrilling encounter ended with each side taking a share of the spoils as the season nears it's conclusion, with Genesis' last game of the season coming this Bank Holiday Friday (29th April) with a 3pm kick off away to Clitheroe.
