Leigh Genesis FC were well represented at the 2017 Believe Wigan Sports awards nominated for no less than 5 awards in 4 categories. Andrew Burton and Josh Smith were nominated for Volunteer of the year, Janet Smith Unsung hero and Lee Darbyshire Coach of the year. Unfortunately, the competition was very strong but the knowledge of receiving the recognition was superb.
The best was saved to last as Genesis were announced Winner of the highly prestigious Club of the Year award.
This was the 3rd time in the last 4 years Genesis have won the award having done so in 2014, being 3rd placed finalist in 2015 and winner in 2016. The Club now go on to represent the Wigan Borough now at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards later in the year.

Club Secretary Rob Atherton commented " To win the award again is a magnificent achievement and a credit to all the people who work extremely hard to make the club the success it is. This award is dedicated to our legend Niall Dearnaley who during his long service with the club displayed the fundamentals of what the club wishes to see.. friendships, enjoyment and loyalty. A hero lost but never forgotten.
